Literacy Example - Due September 27th
Examples of literacy may be found throughout Victoria Purcell-Gates book, Other Peoples' Words. All teachers, regardless of content, are teachers of reading. This week your job is to first define literacy and then pick one example of literacy that you find interesting, different or are unsure of that you would like to further explore. This may be a word, sentence, short passage or a question. The is a three part assignment so be sure to answer each part of the question:
1. Pick one website from September 13th and define literacy in your own words. You may compose your own after reading several on-line or if you choose to do your own research (by all means go out and read!) but be sure to cite your sources.
2. Find your favorite example of literacy or non-literacy from the Purcell-Gates' book. Be sure to explain why your choose it and what it means to you as a future teacher. This needs to be at least two pages, double spaced, following APA style. Make sure you are able to discuss this as we will visit this next week in small and large group. Also, your example does not have to come from chapters 2-4 so keep on reading to find more strategies for that toolkit.
